Description: Waldie warns against the perceived negative effects to the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary by the California's State Water Project. According to Waldie, the State Water Resources Control Board, without oversight, chose to ignore the advice of its own scientists and began plans for a peripheral canal to divert water to other parts of the state. Waldie cites reports by Department of Fish and Game biologists indicating that a "drastic and intolerable reduction" in the striped bass fishery would result were purposely excluded from the task report of the Bay-Delta study. A counter argument, "California's Water Problems: Perspectives and Prospects," occurred the following week (28 Feb 1969).
